Once upon a time, the Village of Tularosa had no public library. Then a library directors' job was created and advertised in the fall of 2003. Randi Northrop was hired into the position and thus began what was to be a 14-year career as the Director of the Tularosa Public Library. The library began in two small rooms at the Tularosa Community Center and was quickly outgrowing the available space. A generous benefactor donated the lot the library is built on. The Village was able to obtain capital outlay funds for the design and building of the library. The current building became operational in November 2006. The building is dedicated in remembrance of Lupe and Jose Bernal, the family who owned the land that the library is located on. Mrs. Northrop, with much assistance from her spouse John, created a welcoming community asset that the current director invites all to come in and enjoy.
